OPC is New Zealand’s leading outdoor training provider, offering challenging programmes based on an educational philosophy and facilitated by expert staff.

Founded by Graeme Dingle with Sir Edmund Hillary as patron back in 1973, OPC is a charitable trust with the stated mission of:

‘Developing human potential and environmental awareness through challenging adventure programmes facilitated in a fun and supportive manner.’

OPC’s core focus is to provide people with the opportunity to spend time in the wilderness; discovering their potential, learning to contribute as part of a team, setting goals and accepting challenges. There’s also a strong focus on encouraging conservation and preservation of the natural environment.

OPC provides a diverse range of programmes from outdoor adventure challenge courses to corporate training programmes, technical skill workshops and full-time certificates in instructor training.

Current clients include over sixty secondary schools each year as well as special needs groups from IHC, CCS, Federation for Deaf Children, Royal Society for the Blind, the police and social services. The centre also offers adult skills programmes such as kayaking, mountaineering, rock climbing, caving, and first aid.
